Solangon Forest
Garden
In 2025 we started planting a variety of fruit seedlings (mango, papaya, banana, soursop, custard apple, tamarind, durian, avocado, jackfruit, breadfruit, guava, cacao, kalamansi, pomelo, grape fruit, santol, passion fruit, black pepper vine, marang, mabolo, starfruit, star apple) on these 1.5 hectares of shrub land.
Time will show which trees grow well and bear fruit on the alkaline limestone-based soils. We are adding vermicast to help manage the pH.
The area already has many tugas/molave and other native trees and bushes. Could use some help identifying the different species. 🙂
In the past many of the trees Trees were cut and harvested for firewood, posts, and leaves for animal fodder. We have now fenced the area to reduce the cutting.
