Solangon Garden
In 2025 we started planting mango, papaya, banana, soursop, custard apple, tamarind, durian, avocado, jackfruit, breadfruit, guava, cacao, kalamansi, pomelo, grape fruit, santol, passion fruit, black pepper, marang, starfruit, star apple, pine apple and more fruits mixed in with existing trees and bushes. We are also incorporating some more native trees like narra and mabolo/kamagong.
Time will show which species grow well on these alkaline limestone soils. We use compost and vermicast to help manage the pH and enhance fertility.
This land measures ~1.5 ha. Before, trees and shrubs were harvested for firewood, posts, and leaves for livestock fodder. We are now protecting the area and tugas/molave and other native trees and bushes are quickly coming back.
