Ytaya Valley
Two hectares of sloping, fertile loamy soils. Came with mango, coconut, bamboo, papaya, duhat, and banana. Post-COVID we have added cacao, guyabano (soursop), kalamansi, dragon fruit, pineapple, sampalok (tamarind), marang, and kaimito (starapple). Many of the trees are still young and yet to produce fruits.
Native trees like narra, langin, talisay, talubang, tipolo, and tugas/molave grow naturally here. And the lower valley portions are good for turmeric, taro/gabi, ube (purple yam), kangkong (water spinach) and kamote (sweet potatoes) production.
In the past the mangoes were “bomba” sprayed with potassium nitrate to induce out of season flowering. Unfortunately this practice is incompatible with organic methods and it seems to have stopped natural flowering. Any advice anyone?
